Dog Track to Internet Security with Tekdata
Tekdata Distribution of Stoke-on-Trent supplies Internet Security appliances, which are marketed through UK business systems computer specialists - the value added resellers (VARs). These are regionally based, dealing with the end-user customers.

In a move to develop stronger business ties Tekdata Distribution will be treating its product resellers to a night out at two Greyhound Racing Association venues; Bellevue, Manchester on 22 August and Wimbledon, London 12 September, 2006.

Research has shown that Greyhound racing is very popular within the IT business sector. And with Greyhounds in mind, Tekdata will be using the two events to benefit Animal Lifeline of Longton, North Staffordshire's leading dog rescue and re-homing organisation.

"The traditional approach is to organise regional seminars and product update briefings around the country," explains marketing manager, James Aberley.

"But resellers are busy people," he adds "Taking time out to attend seminars is not always possible. The alternative is to reach them out of normal working hours and that means tapping into some form of recreational activities."

Tekdata Distribution's managing director, Ken Hulme supports the idea. "The greyhound venues enable us to get to know our resellers better. We prefer to speak to them rather than lecture and simply push product data. Greyhound racing is a great way to provide some enjoyment as well as the opportunity to discuss business issues."

On the business side, Tekdata Distribution has been supplying Internet Security products since 1997 and the company is now the largest distributor outside of the USA for SonicWall, the market leader. New products include a Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance. This incorporates anti-virus, anti spyware, intrusion prevention and firewalls all within a single box. Previously large organisations would require four or five appliances to provide various levels of cover.
Most enterprises admit IT security failures

Almost 85 per cent of large US enterprises admit to having suffered an IT security incident over the past 12 months, and the number of breaches continues to rise, new research warned today.

According to a Computer Associates poll of 642 US enterprise corporates, security breaches have increased by 17 per cent since 2003.

Some 54 per cent of organisations reported lost workforce productivity, 25 per cent reported public embarrassment, loss of trust/confidence and damage to reputation, and 20 per cent reported losses in revenue, customers or other tangible assets.

SonicWALL Announces Support Reinstatement packs

When the support on a SonicWALL unit lapses normally you have to backdate the support packs to bring it up-to-date. i.e. the support on a TZ unit ran out in 2004, you would have to buy 2 support packs to bring the support into 2006. Now you can buy a support reinstatement pack, at low cost, which will bring you up to the day it is entered onto the SonicWALL and then you put a regular 8x5 pack on to give you the support for the next year. For more information contact Tekdata on 01782 665522
